Evasion in Marrakech: the Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Bernard Touillon

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum of Marrakech pays tribute to the fashion designer's genius, who died in 2008. He encloses Yves Saint Laurent's Morocco, sublimated by its couture collections ... Discovery signed South Side.

Dedicated to the present time, not a mausoleum museum that freezes the time of remembrance, but a living cultural space that crosses the time, to bloom in a contemporary Morocco. Far from the agreed clichés, the exhibitions and projections taking place at Yves Saint Laurent Museum of Marrakech offer series of photographic moments. Capture of chosen moments and sincere friendships, a time revealed by the staging of personal images, crowds of sketches, couture swaggering and all-black mannequins dressed or dazzling in color.

Highlights of the parades on a scenography by Christophe Martin. The models in slow motion come alive against the backdrop of Ravel's Boléro.

There, where the cloakroom of the modern woman and the sun are telescoping ... "The color was given to me by the color of Morocco" says the voice of Yves Saint Laurent, recognizable among all. The museography of Christophe Martin makes the story alive and evades the chronology to let live only emotion. It contains a filigree material, a drape, a deep black, a pencil stroke, an intimate return on creation and the act of kissing and making familiar the story of a life.

Carrying a history of detail at all, from the modest to the sublime, the architects Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty envision it in response to the requirement of Pierre Bergé, to the urgency that made him say "All my life has consisted in transforming memories in projects ". Architect's dizziness venturing into the unknown territory of a museum order while the Studio KO cultivates the scale of the domestic habitat. Passion for the story of a life of creation, woven of French and Moroccan history, assembled to form a single architectural gesture.
