Direction Sicily, on the slopes of Etna, with the visit of a large building of the 1930s brought up to date in a sleek design style. The Zash Hotel opens its doors to you ...

Between the Baroque Catania and the splendor of the Gulf of Taormina, nestled in a citrus farm, Hotel Zash is the link between an archaic Sicily and the architecture of tomorrow. Etna, in majesty, watches over him. Visit of a hotel which mixes old stones and furniture design.

Sicily knows like no other telling its story. The richness of his language juggles with all the time of the narration. And it's a chance because the guests of the Zash Hotel all have the same question hanging on their lips. Zash? Four mysterious letters for an extraordinary place. On the slopes of Etna, is it a locality, a dialectal word, a wine, a volcanic rock, a mythological creature ... Zash, it's more simply the breath of the wind when it goes down the slopes of the river. 'Etna, cross vineyards and agrumeto to reach the sea. A mineral breath, saturated with the scent of orange blossom in an immutable Sicily.

No saturation of objects or decorative elements

Member of Design Hotels for its exemplary restoration and independence of spirit, Zash is, in the first place, an agricultural land, a garden of thirteen hectares of oranges, mandarins, lemons ... A refined and rural place where nature imposes his rhythm, between sweetness of life and silence. A former palmento, a country house dedicated to the vineyard, with its vats, cellars, vaults, press ... tells fragments of history and inspires the renovation project of architects Antonio Iraci and Carla Maugeri, creators of Archline Studio.

A key meeting to revive the contemporary taste of the great building of the 1930s. Their architectural intervention is done by subtle touches and plays on contrasts. For the ten rooms divided between house and garden, the architects designers allow themselves oak floors, white walls, large strips of lava stone ... a sobriety intended to reveal, first of all, the depth of the landscape.

In the large building or in the contemporary wings, the architect Antonio Iraci and the designer Carla Maugeri have defined limpid, immaculate spaces where the garden penetrates afloat.

No or few decorative effects, but designed and integrated furniture modules. In this project of experimental architecture, the essence of the place remains a priority. Its dynamics is the result of a balance of traces, lines and materials. If, for the rooms, the key of reading is the transparency and the purity, in the restaurant and the living rooms, the rational and laborious vocation of the palmento is preserved. The raw walls and wine color still tell the harvest returns, traditional songs and grapes footed that the owner Renato Maugeri evokes with all the tenderness of his child's eyes.

This is why contemporary additions are deliberately very identifiable. Mentally, the eye must be able to remove them so that the story of the past life is intact. From the pool nestled in the foliage to the spa in the making, to the table scented with local flavors, it is important that the natural microcosms that make up the richness of this Eastern Sicily are inviting at any time. With its snowy summit culminating at 3,300 m, Etna is at the heart of all thoughts.

Between land and sea, its strength and beauty inspire the young chef Giuseppe Raciti to exalt the brilliance of a Sicilian cuisine natural and refined. In the early morning, we surprise a host picking his oranges to enjoy a fresh fruit juice ... the tasting of good wines from the volcanic soil of Etna it will be for later. Here the mood is by nature generous and time has all its time.

The ancient palmento radiates all its earthly beauty. By climbing a few steps, the grapes were poured out of the windows for the crushing of the feet.
