Functional and family-oriented, Guillaume Durand's apartment is in his image: a classic bourgeois apartment with a touch of bohemian style.
Guillaume Durand is on the air of the morning of Radio Classique every day. This brainy early riser can not speak deco without some philosophical-existential convolutions. If his passion for contemporary art emerges very quickly, wisdom and reason have taken precedence, in an interior dominated by measurement. And if he denies being maniacal, his vital order is geometric. No trinkets or accumulations.
Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
Guilaume Durand : The kitchen ! Compared to our previous apartments, we finally have a functional and sufficiently large classic kitchen, with a beautiful glass table where you can dine and watch TV. Everything is white and black, version Ikea chic, sober and anti bling bling as possible! There are two framed photos on the wall that I have been keeping for years, prints of the Beatles by Sergeant Pepper and Abbey Road.
A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends?
Guillaume Durand: I cook the French of my generation. Goodbye veal blanquette and beef bourguignon. For the first time, we have a small plancha, so priority grill. And unexpectedly, spaghetti of course!
Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?
Guillaume Durand: Our previous apartment was a TV studio and had been outrageously decorated. This is a classic bourgeois interior where I live quietly with my family. The functional side above all, with rooms for children, bathrooms ... It's very basic! In the end, little furniture and especially less and less objects.
This is the living room of Guillaume Durand's previous apartment, which served as a TV set for his show "Rive Droite" on Paris Première.

Your favorite color in your home?
Guillaume Durand: White and red, a color that my wife likes a lot. There is a big redboard of an American artist, a red sofa ...
And the works of art?
Guillaume Durand: It has been a long time since I separated from it. I do not have any more precious works but mainly paintings of friends. I had magic things: Basquiat, Warhol's drawings, Sol LeWitt's screens ... but it's important to make the difference between the art market and the history of art.
I had a collector's course well before anyone else, except that it's a rich man's passion. And since I'm not an industry captain, I've always bought paintings that I had to resell afterwards. Today, I have neither regret nor nostalgia; I am in my right place but this passion remains.
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Guillaume Durand: The reproduction of the Demoiselles d'Avignon! This digital photo is a wink to test the lack of culture of some people who told me when I arrived: "I did not know that you were the owner of this table!". A snub!
Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Guillaume Durand: The idea of having an extra piece does not interest me. These are most often rooms where you never give up. I do not like ghost stuff. On the other hand, I would love to have a red chalkboard of Barnett Newman at MOMA.
Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Guillaume Durand: A red vacuum!
An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
Guillaume Durand: My shirts! I'm a shirt fetishist and I love to change it three times a day. I accumulate them over the years; I have models bought at Charvet that I could never throw!
And the TV, which room?
Guillaume Durand: We have two TVs: one in the kitchen, the other in our room. We used to have a TV room to prevent children from being confronted.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Guillaume Durand: Rather in silence. And when I listen to music, I listen to everything. I have always been an eclectic.
Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Guillaume Durand: I really like Dior's colognes like Vetiver. Sometimes, we make pichits pichts in the rooms!
Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?
Guillaume Durand: In the room, we kept the curtains of our old apartment which are of an intense pink. I find it very beautiful, between pink and red. They are in a very thick velvet and therefore opaque because I need to make black. I get up very early around 5:30.
What is on your bedside table?
Guillaume Durand: I do not have any. When I wake up, I leave the room in silence so as not to disturb my wife. I have to have a different life because I leave early and the whole family is asleep. So, I turned a small bathroom into a kind of catch-all. I have an empty pocket on a radiator in the hall where I put my last books, pairs of glasses, my pens.
Rather orderly or messy?
Guillaume Durand: I have a bohemian side organized ... Rather ordered, I'm not crazy but I hate the brothel. I remember that I had a subject at the bac on the vital order and the geometric order. If there are people for whom it is essential to live in an accumulation of objects, my vital order is geometric.
I am a thrower! Impossible to work and write a single word, if all is not nickel. I hate trinkets and things that are useless. I have a phobia of newspapers lying around ... In interviews with some prime ministers, this difference in order from one office to another struck me, especially between Rocard and Balladur. The first was only accumulation of papers, in the second, nothing exceeded. Without being balladurien, I still think it reflects a kind of clarity.
Are the books in your library?
Guillaume Durand: I have three libraries: one for art books, another for literature that I consider to be major, and a "transit" or "transit" library, stashed in the hallway, for those who finish in the garbage. I love to throw books! In my opinion, it's the exact opposite of an iconoclastic or anti-cultural act: one accumulates too many uninteresting books. It's very helpful mentally to clean up. Often, people stage the culture they do not have ... like a kind of wallet!
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Guillaume Durand: I often buy flowers, with a preference for white flowers. I bought last year a huge paper bouquet, found by chance in Biarritz.
Your addresses or favorite brands for the home?
Guillaume Durand: It's more the radius of my wife. For fun, I love to walk in front of Knoll Boulevard Saint-Germain. I find the big Knoll in neon, very beautiful!
