Installing radiators in front of a window or bay windows is not absurd. On the contrary, this heating arrangement makes it possible to improve its comfort and to save energy. We tell you why.

You hesitate to install your radiators under your windows? Here are 3 good reasons to opt for this implantation of heating.

1. Heat under windows to stop cold air

In winter, the outside air, in contact with the windows, cools the house. This is the "cold wall" effect, so uncomfortable. To correct this defect, skirting radiators, specially designed for such a location, are installed in front of the windows. Mounted on feet, low (less than 40 cm) and all in length (between 1 and 2 m in standard dimensions), they act as a thermal barrier. The heat they release blocks the icy radiation of the windows.

2. A radiator under a window to heat large volumes

Small but effective, baseboard heaters are usually enough to heat a room, even large. "Some models are endowed with huge powers, look at Roissy airport or in some school halls, we find under the windows," argues Élisabeth Pierson, Acova communication manager. To size the installation, take into account the volume of the room, the insulation and the glass surface. "We can play on the length, height and thickness of the radiators, some of which are custom-made," explains Élisabeth Pierson. "But this type of convector is useless if there is single glazing windows," warns Hubert Lanvin, founder of the WorldStyle boutique, specializing in designer radiators. Often, in verandas in particular, the skirting radiator serves as a supplement to a floor heating low temperature for extra comfort.

3. Let the light in

Thanks to its low height, the skirting radiator allows to keep a maximum of natural light. For even more discretion, especially in the bay windows any height, opt for the radiator gutter, of which only the grid is visible. Recessed in the floor, it creates a curtain of warm air in front of the windows. In "boost" mode, it is formidable efficiency but purrs loudly and dries the air: to avoid in the rooms.

Despite its compact size, the "Flow Form" heaters radiate a powerful and even heat. Minimum dimensions L 100 x H 13 cm, from 398 euros HT (hot water) and 878 euros HT (electric), Runtal at WorldStyle.
