A contemporary house nestled in a slope

A contemporary house nestled in a slope

LAP Architects

With its panoramic view of the massive Tournette, this contemporary house has something to envy! Located between Geneva and Annecy, it originates in the heart of a sloping ground of 1000 m2 which is the particularity of this new construction. To meet this challenge, the owners appealed to the architects of the agency LAP Architects who have overcome the constraints of the environment. Outside, the longère fits perfectly into the landscape, while inside the spacious volumes open onto the surrounding nature. Discovery…

The ground being located overhanging a chapel classified as historical monuments, the construction of the house required the agreement of the Architects of the Buildings of France and the respect of local architectural codes. Street-facing facades were lime-lined in a shade similar to that of the chapel stones, while larch cladding covered some facades, while anthracite tiles were chosen for the roof. For the rest, the very contemporary forms of the house, as well as its large openings and its configuration make it a gem of architectural creation. Visit of this house where interior and exterior merge.

The external environment shapes the farmhouse

There are more complex projects than others ... And a panoramic view of the mountainous landscape is deserved! Take altitude and you will find yourself quickly on steep and steep terrain. This is the major constraint that LAP Architects has had to face to imagine 170 m2 of housing, perfectly integrated into the environment. So it was the slope that guided the architects to model the house. Thus, each level interacts directly with the outside, which makes it a very pleasant place to live. Spread over two levels, the rooms have an unconventional configuration: Level 1 hosts children's rooms and recreational areas, while level 2 stay, the master bedroom and parking.

The house is born in the steep terrain

The slender roof with double slope almost takes birth in the ground. Breakthrough above the terrace, it lets the light circulate in the interior spaces. The exterior wooden cladding is inspired by the old barns, with its raw appearance and blades of different widths.

Inside, the opening on the landscape is omnipresent

The owners wanted above all a house open to the breathtaking landscape. For this, it was thought of with generous volumes, as this double height in the living room. The spaces communicate with each other, making exchanges more user-friendly while preserving the privacy of each. The house is thus composed of a lot of emptiness, in a sober and refined atmosphere, with the landscape as the main decoration. It penetrates the interior thanks to the large and numerous openings: doors, windows, made to measure, give access to the garden wherever you are in the house. The windows, located low enough, let the eyes flee on the outside. If daylight floods the space, once night falls the spotlights take over. Rather than choosing a monumental suspension that would have increased the impression of volume, the choice fell on these Delta light spots whose adjustable intensity can vary the atmosphere of the house.

With the glass doors, the passage between the inside and the outside becomes obvious

A large office unfolds over part of the living room. The perforated floor covered with a glass plate allows the different spaces to communicate without impacting the double height under ceiling, while letting the light circulate. With its large custom-made wooden tray facing the view, the office becomes a place of inspiration conducive to work. Another glass plate serves as a guardrail while facilitating the passage of light. On the same level, the architects in charge of the project have imagined for the owners a cocoon space under slope, without window this time, to make it a place almost timeless and resourceful, whatever the climatic conditions.

Sobriety and tailor made this place a place where life is good

In order to create a healthy habitat, materials such as parquet or paints were chosen for their ecological properties. The species of wood, oak, spruce and larch, married to the bright white walls leave plenty of room for the outside view. The sober and clean lines contribute to this impression of volume. In the living room of 35 m2, the open kitchen meets this need for communication between spaces. Small in size, it was made entirely to measure. If the large number of windows makes the space pleasant, it also brings its share of constraints. So kitchen side, difficult to create high storage. These have found their place on a small linear. Another tip: the choice of a retractable hood that allows not to break the gliding line of eyes on the outside.
