Which microwave model to choose?

Difficult to navigate among all models offered: mono, grill and combined. Between the three, your heart swings. The first question to ask, according to Benoît Petit Damico is: "what use do we really want to make?" "If it is only for heating and serving as a complement to a conventional oven, the basic model is advisable", adds Céline Bertuzzi.

If, on the other hand, you want your device to be equipped with a function to brown and brown some dishes, the microwave grill is the one you need.

But if you want to ask him the impossible, to cook everything and play it solo in your kitchen, then it is the handset that must be favored. "In this case, as it offers about 17 pre-recorded programs, it completely replaces the traditional oven," continues Severin's director.

What budget for a microwave oven?

For a mono microwave, count a price range from 69 to 179 euros; for a model with grill, from 79 to 219 euros; for a handset from 249 to 549 euros.

Which ability to prefer?

"It depends on the size of the family," explains Benoît Petit Damico. Singles or couples will opt for a 20l instead; a home of 4 to 6 people will choose a 23 or 25l; beyond, a 28 or 32l, even a 35l is required.

The size of the tray is also to be taken into account. "It must be about the size of a large plate," says the Director of Séverin. "Or be equipped with a disengageable function, to allow you to install larger or rectangular dishes, but this is an option that concerns especially handsets," says Céline Bertuzzi.

Attention to clutter in the kitchen

"It's also a question of clutter," says product manager Whirlpool. The more its capacity increases, the more its size will be important. An important feature to consider for freestanding models. "

The question is not relevant for built-in models, since they will align with all other cooking appliances and generally fit into custom-designed kitchens. "These are models that are installed, in a specific space, in columns often and in harmony with a classic oven", continues Benoît Petit Damico.

Mechanical or electronic timer?

The mechanical timer is always present on the mono and grill models. "Their price is certainly more affordable, but they are less accurate in terms of cooking time and they also offer fewer programs," says the product manager. And since the role of microwaves is to save us time, help and adapt to multiple forms of cooking, she says, it's better to focus on electronics. "The trend is user-friendliness in terms of display and cooking assistance, which the entry-level models with a mechanical timer do not offer," adds director Severin France.

The reign of the old microwave all white enthroned on a work plan is over. Steam function, screen and tactile keys, digital display ... Today's models compete in multiple and varied prowess to be efficient while displaying a clean and design look. For the pleasure of the eyes and the mouth!
